Empower your clients to unlock their motivation for change.

Many clients experience moments when they feel “stuck” or uncertain about their next steps. Motivational interviewing is a practical, evidence‑based approach that helps people resolve ambivalence, clarify their goals, and build confidence to make meaningful changes. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn micro‑skills and strategies to better engage clients, connect with them at their stage of change, and guide them toward insight, resilience, and lasting progress.

  • Clinicians, counsellors, and social workers
  • Workers in community organisations, health, child and family services, or youth sectors
  • Allied health and human services professionals at any stage of their careers

Course structure

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Reflect on how and why people change
  • Understand the principles and techniques of motivational interviewing
  • Apply skills that support clients to overcome ambivalence and resistance
  • Use strategies to help clients recognise the costs of their current situation and the benefits of change
  • Encourage clients to harness their own motivation for sustainable progress

About the presenters

Jeff Roberts is a clinical psychologist with over 15 years’ counselling and mental health experience across Australia and internationally. He specialises in men’s health and has significant experience working with LGBTIQA+ communities on issues including anxiety, depression, sexual health, and interpersonal challenges. Jeff is also skilled in psychological testing, coaching, training, and leadership development.

When you register, you’ll be taken to our payment gateway to complete your enrolment. A Moodle account (our Learning Management System) will be created for you to access workshop details and attendance links.

  • Registrations close 48 hours before the workshop
  • Full payment is required at least 2 business days before the training
  • If paying by invoice, proof of payment must be provided 24 hours in advance
